Garnett's 1st Day of School

An imagining of Garnett's first day of school. 

I like to think of his happiness & excitement he would have felt this day, & I treasure that thought.

On a crisp autumn morning, Garnett Spears awoke with a flutter of excitement in his heart. Today was a special day - it was his very first day of school. With a wide grin stretching across his face, Garnett bounded out of bed & eagerly raced to the kitchen.

The scent of freshly cooked pancakes greeted him as he entered the cosy kitchen. His 'mother' Lacey, stood at the stove, flipping golden pancakes with practiced ease. Garnett's stomach rumbled with anticipation as he settled himself at the table, eagerly awaiting his breakfast, his trusty owl mug, filled with warm cocoa, in front of him.

After devouring a stack of pancakes drizzled with maple syrup, Garnett hurriedly dressed in his smart green button-up shirt, black pants & leather shoes. He meticulously brushed his long blonde hair, ensuring that his cute fringe fell just right before grabbing his blue tartan backpack filled with school supplies.

After breakfast Garnett felt the excitement bubbling as he posed for a photo next to a blackboard written on with colourful chalk. His 'mother' had written the words "Garnett's 1st Day of School" on the board, the days date, along with tidbits about Garnett's favorite colour & foods. With a big, open mouth smile on his face, Garnett posed proudly, his backpack perched on the corner of the blackboard.

With a skip in his step, Garnett set off on the short walk to Green Meadow Waldorf School, nestled amidst the bushy landscape of Chestnut Ridge, New York. The refreshing autumn air filled his lungs as he trekked through the winding paths, the vibrant colours of fall painting the world around him.

As he entered the classroom, Garnett felt joy at the sight of his new teacher, Miss Grieder, he had met her before & was familiar with her. She greeted him warmly, her smile radiating kindness & warmth. Garnett felt a twinge of sadness as he bid farewell to his 'mother', but the excitement of the day ahead quickly overshadowed any lingering doubts.

Throughout the day, Garnett met new friends & interacted with his classmates & teacher. He learned about the wonders of nature, explored the school's outdoor spaces & immersed himself in the joy of learning.

As the final bell rang, signalling the end of the school day, Garnett reluctantly bid farewell to his newfound friends & made his way back home. With each step, he chattered excitedly to his 'mother', recounting every detail of his thrilling day at school.

Upon arriving home, Garnett pleaded with his 'mother' to call his grandparents, GG & Nana, to share the excitement of his first day. With a beaming gap toothed grin, he eagerly recounted his adventures, declaring his love & longing for them with every word. & as he settled in for the evening, Garnett drifted off to sleep, his heart full of joy & anticipation for the adventures that lay ahead.
