Garnett Spears couldn’t hold back his excitement. As soon as he saw the snow outside, he raced to the front door, flinging it open & charging out in nothing but his green jumper & jeans. The cold air nipped at his skin, but he was too entranced by the blanket of white to notice. His boots crunched through the snow, & he bent down to touch it with his bare hands, giggling at how soft & cold it felt.
His 'mother', watching from the doorway, smiled at the sight. Before she called him back inside, she quickly pulled out her camera & snapped a photo - capturing the moment of pure wonder on Garnett’s face as he stood in the snow for the first time.
“Garnett!” she called, her voice gentle but firm. “You’re going to freeze like that! Come inside, & let’s get you dressed properly.”
With a quick nod, Garnett ran back inside, cheeks already flushed pink from the cold. His 'mother' helped him into his thick winter coat, wrapped a scarf snugly around his neck, & pulled a beanie down over his ears. Mittens were slipped onto his hands, completing his winter gear.
Now properly bundled up, Garnett ran back outside with his toy trucks in hand.
Soon, Garnett was fully immersed in play. He drove his toy trucks through the soft snowdrifts, making little roads & tunnels for them. For hours, he built miniature landscapes - snowy hills, valleys & tiny snowmen that stood as sentinels on the edge of his imaginary construction sites.
The cold didn’t seem to bother him as he lost himself in the joy of discovery. The backyard became his winter wonderland, where his trucks ploughed through snowbanks & every snowflake felt like an invitation to play just a little longer.
As the afternoon faded into evening, Garnett finally returned inside, his cheeks flushed red & his smile as wide as ever. His first snow day was one of pure delight & the magic of that moment lingered with him as he curled up, warm & happy, recounting his adventures to his 'mother'.
